Twelve years ago, professional women artists, many of whom were members of the Arts council of the Long Beach Museum of Art, were motivated to share their art by opening their studios to art lovers, collectors, and members of their community. They organized what will soon be the 8th Biennial Mid-City Studio Tour scheduled for June 3rd and 4th from 11am to 4pm.  The event will once again provide an invaluable link between artist and audience.

Painters, book artists, sculptors, and ceramic artists are amongst the many talented individuals on this tour. Stop by location 1 on the map to see an example of all the artist’s work in a unique collective show.

Artwork will be on display in the meeting room of the Library from May 20-July 1st. There will also be a vitrine display of artists’ books in the Library, and small homemade
blank art books will be free to children and adults. There will also be a make-and-take quick book project, and special lectures from artists on the tour will be as follows:

Tues, May 16, 4pm:   Alice Foss-Thorne; Recycled Art
Fri, May 26, 1pm:     Carol Roemer; Artists’ Books
Tues, May 30, 1pm:   Kristine Baker; Silk Fabric Demo
Tues, May 30, 1pm:   Kurt Hatzsch, Prose Reading
Wed, May 31, 5pm:    Jaye Whitworth; Assemblage Art
